Product Name: | Durapore |
Classification Name: | Tape Permeable, Woven, Synthetic Adhesive |
Manufacturer: | 3M Health Care Ltd |
Durapore surgical tape consists of a non-extensible woven acetate-taffeta fabric coated with a layer of an acrylic adhesive. The tape is very strong but the nature of the fabric is such that it allows for bidirectional tear. The tape is permeable to moisture vapour and will therefore tend not to cause maceration of the skin. Durapore is radio-transparent.
Durapore is most commonly used for retaining dressings on non-flexing areas where strength is important. As the tape is coated with an acrylic adhesive system, it may usually be applied to patients who have exhibited an adverse reaction to adhesives containing rubber or resin.
Although there are no absolute contra-indications to the use of Durapore, it should (like most tapes) be used with caution on patients who have very fragile skin, such as those on long-term steroid therapy.
It should not be necessary to use skin tackifiers, such as tincture of benzoin, with Durapore. Because the tape is not extensible, care should be taken to ensure that it is not applied under tension (which could cause damage to the skin by exerting a shearing force).
In common with all adhesive products, Durapore should be stored in a dry place, and not subjected to extremes of temperature.
