Description

Carbonet is a multi-component dressing which combines both fluid and odour absorbing properties. It consists of a low adherent wound contact layer of knitted viscose backed with an absorbent layer of fibrous cellulose to which is bonded a layer of activated charcoal cloth, that is sandwiched between two layers of polyethylene net. An outer layer of polyester fleece completes the structure of the dressing.

Indications

Carbonet may be used to contain the odour produced by all types of malodorous wounds, including fungating lesions, faecal fistulae, necrotic pressure sores and leg ulcers.

Contra-indications

There are no reported contra-indications to the use of Carbonet.

Method of use

Carbonet may be placed directly onto the surface of the wound and held in place with tape or a bandage as appropriate. Secondary dressings are often not required.

Frequency of Change

The frequency of dressing change will depend upon the condition of the wound. The odour absorbing properties of the activated charcoal may be reduced when the fabric becomes wet with exudate and the dressing should therefore be changed at this point.

Presentation

Carbonet dressings are presented individually wrapped in a peel pouch, sterilised by gamma irradiation.
